Origin Of OxPrints: The Philosophy
The Ten oxherding Pictures
The Ten Oxherding Pictures is a Zen Buddhist teaching that uses the search for, capture, and taming of an ox as a metaphor for the journey toward awakening. The ox represents the true - interdependent nature of the mind, while the oxherder represents the seeker. The journey begins with Searching for the Ox, when the seeker senses that something is missing but does not yet know what it is. In Seeing the Footprints, the seeker discovers teachings and glimpses that point toward the truth. Like the footprints of the Ox, my hope is that my film prints inspire intrinsic contemplation and point you, the seeker in the direction of truth. “Insight into emptiness is awakening to interconnectedness, and thus the loving heart is opened along with the awakened mind” (Davis, 2022).
